Public art, curating, management
Copenhagen just got a new multi arena, Royal Arena, and ArtRebels was given four big murals on the stairs taking you from the main entrance into the heart of the arena. The vision for this project was to give the arena a dynamic and playful expression to mirror the arenas cultural diversity. The dutch illustrator Hedof with his strong shapes, funny characters and small twisted stories in his illustration was curated to design the four murals. Together with his artist friends Ilse Weisfelt & Joren Joshua, they painted two staircases of 400 m2 in only a week.
Framing the Copenhagen vibe with wellknown attractions as the little mermaid drinking an ice cold soda, a swan eating chips or a guy driving around in a Christiania bike, the murals are talking to the curiosity and leading people into an exploration, not only in the murals but also in the architecture of the building. The stairs now tell stories from our everyday life and themes which is complemented by the future program for the arena.
